Jerry Deprey Memorial Coffee Ride

Jerry Deprey (or JD as many called him) was a long time member of the Eastern Bloc Cycling Club who died suddenly nearing the end of a century ride a little over a year ago (Columbus Day weekend). As he was one of the founding members of the Coffee Ride Board of Directors (CRBOD, a motley group of questionable character), the remaining members thought it would be appropriate to remember him with a Coffee Ride in his honor around the anniversary of his death.

So on Sunday 11/2, we will do one of the classic Coffee Ride routes (http://ridewithgps.com/routes/2847835) out to Southfield, MA for a coffee/espresso/cappuccino. Start will be at 10:00 AM (the morning after we “Fall Back”) so it should be reasonably warm by that time. From New Hartford Center. Park in the lot behind the town hall (the church lot will be occupied).

There is the possibility of a BBQ at Pat Cunningham’s house following the ride. More info/details on that to follow.

Interested in riding, need to check pace. I ride at soft pace, will there be riders going at this pace?

I am looking forward to this ride and honoring my late friend. We will have to make a special stop on the way back at "The Bump in the Road."

All are welcome and pace will be "JD" (which probably translates into IP on the flats and CP on the hills).

JD pace is more like "Go 'til you blow", recover, go again, although after he moved to IA, he grew to (further) avoid any kind of incline.

Is anyone interested in a post ride BBQ? I have an outdoor shower, a grill and a pellet stove so we should be able to handle any weather condition.

Count me in. BBQ sounds good . I'd be willing to bring some food (turkey chili) and beer.

BBQ sounds great. I didn't know Jerry but I'm sure he would like it if we got together after.

Chance of the snow on Sunday. The Flahute would approve :)

In reply to pcunningham

He certainly would approve. I will be at the ride and post ride gathering.

Just a reminder, the ride is this Sunday (remember to fall back Saturday evening). All who knew Jerry, or would simply like to enjoy some time on the bike in his memory are welcome to both the ride and the post ride BBQ. The BBQ will be BYOB but I will have some burgers and dogs handy based on the number of RSVPs.

Please feel free to spread the word to anyone who knew Jerry but may not be using the club forum.

BBQ at 150 Burwell Road, New Hartford. (Across from Brodie Park North). Green cape with detached red garage.

Sounds like fun I'll join y'all for the ride but am not sure I can stay for the BBQ

Will try and meet the group in Riverton. May be blown into another state or too hypothermic for the barbie afterward. Hoping for a MP (merciful) pace.

Great ride on Sunday. I think Jerry would have enjoyed it, well maybe not the climbs. Thanks for coming out everyone. We will keep this one on the calendar.

Ha! You're the biggest FB troll out there!

I changed the album to public.

Sorry for the delay I caused Sunday. No broken bones but minor concussion and a whole lot of soreness. Thanks to all that helped me.
