Road Work - East Hill Road

They will be milling and paving East Hill Road in Canton from Dowd Ave to Rte 44 starting today through the end of the month. Then they'll move to the section of East Hill North of rte 44 up towards Bahre Corner.

Saw signs of oiling planned for W. River Rd in Pleasant Valley next week. Hope they don't oil both sides of the river at the same time.

Update 7/20/15 - I spoke with the department of public works. The paving project is most likely going to extend beyond 8/1/15. They had anticipated an overlay, but due to the poor condition of the road from rt 44 to colony road, they are going to do a full mill and grading. The goal is to be done before school starts the last week of August.

Update 8/3/15 - Tilcon began marking and tearing up the road surface from Dowd Ave to Rte 44 this morning and will begin paving later this week after grinding, reclaiming and regrading the road surface. They expect to be complete by this Friday 8/7/15. The road is basically closes to all traffic except local traffic.

On the North side of rte 44, East Hill Road, CVC has already begun replacing and install new drainage. This work will continue into early fall.

I'd recommend avoiding East Hill on the South side of rte 44 this week and avoid the North side for the next two months. It's a real mess on these roads, but will be very nice when complete.

Did your bike get stolen? How come you're not riding this year?

Jeff,

I miss you too. No stolen bike, just a busy summer. I've been commuting fairly regularly and I ride my mountain bike every weekend at Kingdom trails in VT. Other than that, I've been having a lot of fun paddling my stand up paddleboard, playing hockey, slack lining, and playing with the kids. Maybe I'll catch you guys for some fall rides since my commuting will come to a screeching hault once school starts and I have to drive my son every morning to West Hartford.

Update 8/7/15 - East Hill Road South of rte 44 is completely ground up and widened. They are supposed to pave today. As I left this morning, they were getting set up with their equipment and signs. I don't know if they'll finish today, but I would think it's done in the next 2-3 business days. I can't wait because the road is a mess. Flatted twice this week trying to get to my house.

My understanding is the base layer is down so it should be rideable now, though maybe a bit rough. The top layer will be laid tomorrow.
