New Hartford/Barkhamsted Bike Trail
The town of Barkhamsted is holding a forum Wednesday, December 9th regarding future environmental and recreational planning in the area. One topic that most likely will be discussed, is the proposed recreation/bike trail between the towns of New Hartford and Barkhamsted along the east side of the Farmington river, sometimes referred to as the Ovation Trail. At the last Barkhamsted meeting regarding this subject, the majority of citizens that turned out, spoke unfavorably about such a project. I would urge all cycling enthusiasts in the area to show your support for our sport that provides so many environmental and health benefits for people of all ages and abilities, to attend Wednesday's meeting.
See forwarded email below for more info.
Thanks
Monica

Subject: PUBLIC FORUM TO DISCUSS RESIDENTS’ VISION FOR THE NEXT TEN YEARS
Town of Barkhamsted BARKHAMSTED IS HOLDING A PUBLIC FORUM TO DISCUSS RESIDENTS’ VISION FOR THE NEXT TEN YEARS OF THE TOWN’S ENVIRONMENT & RECREATIONAL OPPORTUNITIES
Barkhamsted’s Planning & Zoning Commission is currently working on updating its Plan of Conservation & Development, which it is required to do every ten years by the State of Connecticut. This document outlines the Town’s vision for itself for the next ten years – the current version, dated 2007, is available on the town website: http://barkhamsted.us/LinkClick.aspx?fileticket=fyOryEfoj8I%3d&tabid=92).
Residents will have the opportunity to weigh in on the ‘Conservation’ portion of the plan (i.e., Environment & Recreation) on Wednesday, December 9th, 2015 at 7:00 PMat the Barkhamsted Town Garage Community Room. This event will be a public forum, opening the floor to residents’ thoughts on what areas should continue to be protected; the forum will also discuss what the residents deem to be appropriate regarding potential recreational opportunities for the future.
Those who cannot attend the meeting, but would like to submit their thoughts are welcome to either fill out the Town’s preliminary survey at https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/6L9N8HT or email their ideas to our graduate student intern from the University of Connecticut, Natalia Zagula at nzagula@barkhamsted.us. Natalia is developing the Plan for the Town, working with the PZC and the Board of Selectmen.
Two additional forums will be held in January, focusing on Economic Development and Housing, and a town-wide survey will be sent out in late January. A draft of the revised Barkhamsted Plan of Conservation & Development will be available to be reviewed by residents in late 2016.
