JUNIOR MENTORING and CCAP / EBCC / Benidorm Bikes Team

Wyatt and I are looking forward to seeing everybody at the Benidorm Bikes 20th Anniversary celebration this Friday (2/23). We'll have some information about the CCAP on hand, including answers to frequently asked questions about the program and specific plans for the Eastern Bloc / Benidorm Bikes / CCAP Junior Road Team.

If you have kids, grand-kids, nieces, nephews, friends or neighbors who are interested in learning more about the team, bring them along to the celebration. We'll also be looking for some riders (particularly parents) who might be interested in mentoring the kids and helping out as sweepers during our training riders. Racing experience is helpful but not required.

Emphasis will be on:

  • Safety

  • Fun

  • Good sportsmanship and ambassadorship for the club / shop / team

  • Improved riding and racing skills

The CCAP is a 501.c.3 charitable organization with a mission of connecting youth with cycling by offering teams and races that build health, personal values and a life-long love of the sport.

Jay Hamilton and I will be at the club spring dinner to provide more information about the regional junior team, and to answer any questions you might have.

Have a look at our team's Facebook page. Please give it a "like" and a "share", and help spread the word to any kids (ages 9-18) who might like to get involved in the sport of cycling.

Jeff, I have some contact info for a senior high school male rider looking to learn more about CCAP. He would have joined us for the Tuesday ride, but I just cancelled it due to the cold rain. Looks like he will join us on Tuesday and Sunday rides. Be in touch with me at your convenience.

Thanks for the lead Jan. As long as he doesn't turn 19 before 12/31/2018, he's eligible to race road as a junior this year. He or has parents can shoot Jay and me a message through our team Facebook page above^, or send an email to our team address: fvyouthcycling@gmail.com.

Registration is done through the CT Cycling Advancement Program's website.

We've already got six awesome kids signed up for the summer road season, with plenty of room and time for more kids (age 9 to 18) to sign up.

I'm also going to email you and Pat some mutually beneficial shop/club/junior team ideas in prep for our May season kick-off.

Our junior team will make it's debut at the Rent tomorrow (5/1) night, in the CCAP Tuesday Night Criterium Series. For those who aren't planning to do the Tuesday night Simsbury group ride, consider coming out to watch the juniors (and not-so-junior club members) in action.

Best of racing to all that head to Rentschler Field! I'll see others at the Tuesday ride for a 6PM start.

CROSS IS COMING! and so is MTB.

Interested in being an assistant coach for the Farmington Valley Youth Cycling team this fall? Coach Jay Hamilton and I will be looking for a couple of assistant coaches for the CX season. Got kids race age 9 through 18 who are interested in racing or learning to race CX? We'll be competing in the CT Series of CX (including home turf Brodie CX), and the Wednesday evening Rocky Hill Training Series of CX races this fall.

Interested in coaching a team of MTB youths in the spring?

Post here or send an email for more information.

CCAP Fall Cyclocross Series

Well said, Jeff. And... don’t let concerns about your racing resume (or lack of fancy carbon tubies) prevent you from considering helping out for cyclocross season. All help is welcome. In addition to the satisfaction of helping out the kids, speaking from experience, I promise that you’ll learn a lot and improve your skills. Coaches also race for free at the Rocky Hill training series.

Registration is now open for the CCAP fall CX junior teams. Bikereg.com

Prior race experience if not required.

Jeff,

I am interested in assisting with mtb racing in the spring. I will be at the Rocky Hill CX race next week and we can discuss at that time.

Ron

Excellent Ron! Let's plan to talk with Monika Stokes and Dave Hoyle that night.

If you're planning to do the CX race that night, you can race for free if you pre-register as a volunteer through this link: Rocky Hill CX Volunteer Registration

The CCAP fall cyclocross season is well underway, scheduled to conclude on Sunday 11/25 at the Bishop's Orchard CX race in Guilford.

Meanwhile, planning is already underway for the spring MTB season. The CCAP is looking for people who would be interested in coaching a Farmington Valley Youth Cycling kids' MTB team. Duties include recruiting team members during the winter and spring months, holding team practices throughout the spring season, and coordinating race participation with team kids and parents. CCAP provides all training materials and pays for USA Cycling coach training.

Post here, or email Jay Hamilton and me @ fvyouthcycling@gmail.com if you're interested in becoming a coach or assistant coach for the CCAP spring MTB Season.
