XMAT Gravel/Bikepacking Trip - May 18-20

One of my riding buddies and I are planning to do a (credit card camping) bikepacking trip that will cover the XMAT (Cross Massachusetts Trail) from East Hartland all the way up into VT and back within the three day journey. Right now we are aiming for May 18-20.

The XMAT was developed to connect to the XVT trail up in VT and it provides a mostly off-pavement route from CT to VT. Gravel, singletrack, pavement; they are all going to be present on this trip! I'll be on my gravel bike while my buddy is planning to use his hardtail MTB so bike choice is up to you!

I have plenty of additional details to share so if you are interested to learn more about the trip please email me directly and we can get into the nitty-gritty.

I hope that some of you will join us! -Jonathan (snoskier16@gmail.com)

Well, I'm too old for that crap. However, maybe we can organize a group to escort you on the first part of your journey. I assume you'll be heading up toward the Cobble Mtn. Res?

I'm not buying that "too old" nonsense, but being able to share the ride, however much, with others will be great!

Here are the three routes for each day of riding (proposed):

Day 1

Day 2

Day 3

Explain “credit card camping”.

In reply to CallMeJay

"Credit Card Camping" is when you stay at a hotel or other non-tent camping location which you would pay for, typically with a credit card. A couple of us just don't have lightweight camping gear and for the amount that we think we'd use it doing a trip where we stay at AirBnB's or hotels just makes the most sense.

Got it. What’s the estimated cost per person?

In reply to CallMeJay

Costs per person will change based on how many people go with us since we are looking at renting an AirBnB house the first night so the cost would be split. As people commit to the trip we can get more detailed numbers, but figure the costs to be ~$120 for lodging and however much you want to spend on food.

I’m out. The CCAP kids are racing that weekend.

Looks like we are moving the trip to the following weekend, May 25-27, so if anyone is interested with the new date let me know!

We are planning an easy pace and will enjoy the process of getting to the destination each day!
