Wed 7/29 SP Ride - Maybe

It's going to be in the low 90s with a heat index over 100 later today. One ride leader has already declined and another is wavering. I did 30 miles yesterday and yeah, it was hot as hell. I went through 4 liters of water and ended up using the rail trails for the entire last 20 miles just to get in the shade. Trouble is, there's no direct access to rail trails from our starting point. No matter what route we use we'll end up in the sun for the first and last several miles.

So I'm tossing this out for debate. Do we cancel or just Rule 9 up?

Unless it is raining, let's go. What is rule 9? Larry

Rule 9

I think the proper rule to invoke here is Rule #5.

I don't believe Rules 5 or 9 are consistent with an SP ride definition. If they are we may need to review ;)

Riding is riding. Rules apply. I do think it is more of the rule #9 in this case.

Au contraire. Rules 5 and 9 apply to everyone, even fat old guys on trikes wearing socks with sandals. ;-)

Weather like this requires the buddy system. Better to ride as a group than to cancel and send those who are going to ride out on their own. I am looking forward to doing my first Wednesday SP ride. Ok, maybe it's sub-SP today.

Okay, since the only votes are saying let's go, I guess we're on.

But we're going to do a route I think is probably brand new terrain to some of you. It's flat, shady, and follows the rail trail along the river for much of the way, which is always much cooler. I usually find the trails pretty empty when it's this hot.

If that's the case I can think of a few Yeti legs out there who need to review rule #33!
