Tuesday Simsbury Club Paced Ride - It's Climb Time!

IMPORTANT: NEW START LOCATION!!! We will be starting in the back of Farms Village Plaza, the shops across from the Post Office and Tulmeadow farm. If you enter in the driveway just east of the main shop entrance it will take you straight to the back lot, please view the map link below for a visual.

Here's this weeks route, a 22mi 2200ft climb, Sunset is 7:57pm and we are starting to hit 2 full hours or ride time. We've done a lot of flat and rolling rides this year so I think it's time to climb! We'll be regrouping after each of the 4 major climbs. It's club pace and there are quite a few of us training and need to take it easy. If we are more than 15 we'll split the group based on the first 10ish to reach the top of climb 1, that group can go but does need to stick together for the remainder of the ride and regroup per the route. The rest will form a second group and do the same. After this workout we may be worthy of Tulmeadow ice cream.

Cue Sheet:

  • Out W Mtn Rd, Right on Shingle Mill, Left on Woodchuck to top where it meets E. Hill Rd. (Regroup 1) SPLIT POINT!
  • Left on E. Hill, (CAUTION the road is really bad), Right on Tanglewood, Left on Morgan descend to 179/Cherrybrook (Regroup)
  • Right on 179/Cherrybrook, all the way to top (past bus depot on right), Left on Hillcrest Dr (Regroup)
  • Take Hillcrest to end, Left on 219 (CAUTION Busy road), Left on Ratlum Rd only .5 mi down 219. *- Read footnote below
  • Take Ratlum to top, Left at stop sign which is Ratlam Mtn Rd, don't forget to curse Satan as you climb his elbow! (Regroup at Top past Doyle on your right)
  • Descend Ratlum Mtn, stay Left at both forks and it turns into Wright Rd. and ends at 179/Cherrybrook, it's a fast descent, be careful.
  • Right and Quick Left onto High Valley Dr. and climb to top, at the 4-way intersection, make a left and take to 309 (Regroup)
  • Right on 309, Descend, caution for the sharp right turn and meet back at the parking lot

Footnote: For the 20 seconds you are on 219, it's safest for the group to all go as one unit and just take up the entire lane with the persons in the rear signaling that the group is turning left onto Ratlum, otherwise you will get pinned to the right of the road and cars are not friendly on 219 - Take the lane.

This is a "Club Pace" ride (generally averaging 15-17 mph) - Route varies weekly, exploring areas west, north, and east of Simsbury. Rides generally alternate between hilly & flat. Regroups always occur at key points, certainly at the tops of climbs. This Ride's is considered "Progressive" where each week the speed and climb increase as riders improve and we chase maximum daylight, however; always staying within the advertised club pace and regrouping.

PLEASE NOTE: Starting in 2015, The group may split based on number of riders. Helmets are required, an emergency headlight is recommended as we chase the daylight. Headphones/ear buds are not allowed. Non-members must sign waiver in order to ride, Minors require adult signature.
