Tuesday 8/11 Simsbury CP Ride - Three Climbs

This week is is 3 steady climbs but on the shorter side of 24.3mi and 2200ft of climb. Weather looks iffy so this gives us bail out points and keeps us closer to start. Sunset is 8:00pm and with overcast we'll be limited to 2 hours max for the ride.

.

Cue Sheet:

  • Out via W. Mountain, Notch, Dry Bridge, Right on Gracey for a climb 1 which is fresh pavement (Regroup at Sexton Hollow Intersection)
  • Left Hilltop Dr, Right on East Hill, Left on N Mountain down to Cherry Brook RT-179 (Regroup)
  • Left on Cherry Brook and veer Right onto Case st for Climb 3 (regroup at Edgerton & Case)
  • Straight on Case to the end, Left on 219 to all way stop, Left on RT-219 and take Cherry Brook all the way to Left on RT-309 and back to start

Be careful on Cherry Brook, the road has some really bad spots in the natural cycling lane.

Additional Ride Details:

  • Location: Farms Village Plaza (Shops Across from Tulmeadow Farms & Post Office)
  • Address: 244 Farms Village Rd, West Simsbury, CT 06092
  • Parking: In the REAR lot behind the builds
  • Start time: 6:00pm sharp
  • Distance: 18-40 miles (varies by month and amount of daylight)
  • Ride Leaders: Christian, Steve Savino, John Lockwood

PACE: This is a "Club Pace" ride (generally averaging 15-17 mph) - Route varies weekly, exploring areas west, north, and east of Simsbury. Rides generally alternate between hilly & flat. Regroups always occur at key points, certainly at the tops of climbs. This Ride's is considered "Progressive" where each week the speed and climb increase as riders improve and we chase maximum daylight, however; always staying within the advertised club pace and regrouping.

PLEASE NOTE: Starting in 2015, The group may split based on number of riders. Helmets are required, an emergency headlight is recommended as we chase the daylight. Headphones/ear buds are not allowed. Non-members must sign waiver in order to ride, Minors require adult signature.

I'm leaning toward cancelling - even though latest percentage has come down a bit - what is swirling around out there are bright red violent pockets and we don't want to end up getting caught in one of those, I'll check it one more time before making the final call to cancel.

I'm going to make a call to cancel, even though percent dropped from 6-8pm, the severity coming by 9pm looks high based on the maps I've seen.. rather be safe then sorry. The center of the pic below is the forecasted storm activity over Simsbury at 9pm.

.

If some folks are interested in doing a faster paced ride tomorrow around the Barkhamstead Res, keep an eye on that thread for details.

Isn't red the new black?

Good call on today and tomorrow. Will there be other CP folks there? (never been before)

Yes, if we have some interest for CP riders to do the IP route, we can get some folks (such as myself and other volunteers) to do a CP sweeping group.

Sounds good. See ya there. I'll be doing the 5:30 179/44 parking lot thing.

I'll be doing the res loop tonight.

Should be at 179/44 lot 5:30 also to meet Ron, and he does leave at 5:30 Sharp (as I witnessed). Tom Q.
