Tuesday 6/23 Simsbury CP Ride - FLATFEST

This week is FLATFEST! Yay! the route, a 37mi 1300ft climb. Wow, I didn't think this was possible to do 37mi around here and only 1300ft of elevation. our biggest climb is 93ft, nice. Also, because HILLFEST is Wednesday this route will ride an easy consistent pace on the low side of CP. Check this profile out!

.

Cue Sheet:

  • flat, flat, flat to the end, go flat, but no flats
  • Left of flatter and return home flattest

Additional Ride Details:

  • Location: Farms Village Plaza (Shops Across from Tulmeadow Farms & Post Office)

  • Parking: In the REAR lot behind the builds
  • Start time: 6:00pm sharp
  • Distance: 18-40 miles (varies by month and amount of daylight)

PACE: This is a "Club Pace" ride (generally averaging 15-17 mph) - Route varies weekly, exploring areas west, north, and east of Simsbury. Rides generally alternate between hilly & flat. Regroups always occur at key points, certainly at the tops of climbs. This Ride's is considered "Progressive" where each week the speed and climb increase as riders improve and we chase maximum daylight, however; always staying within the advertised club pace and regrouping.

PLEASE NOTE: Starting in 2015, The group may split based on number of riders. Helmets are required, an emergency headlight is recommended as we chase the daylight. Headphones/ear buds are not allowed. Non-members must sign waiver in order to ride, Minors require adult signature.

You've really outdone yourself this time!!

Some thoughts on the route....did you mean to put us on the bike path entering Floydville and exiting on Copper Hill? The section of Copper Hill just north of there up to the Fire House near Congamond is closed for repair. (Went by there today). The left onto Rt 10 at Buttles might be kind of tough with the group. You may be better off taking Canton to the end (Stop and Shop intersection) where there's a traffic light, bang a right, move the group left and then turn left onto Floydville (this assumes you still want to get on Floydville considering the bike path issue)

Thanks Chris, yes I did mean to grab the railtrail for a bit and drop off at Copper Hill, is the section I put us on OK or is that the section that's closed?

The bike path is in good shape from Floydville up to Copper but you might be dodging riders and have trouble keeping CP through there.

The closure is Copper Road itself between Phelps and Mountain. From the Mountain Rd side it's ripped up right at the intersection with closure signage. From the Phelps end it's still paved but there's "closed to thru traffic" signage. If you want an option, stay on the path 2 more miles until Congamond Road and get off there and head to the Copper/Mountain/Babbs intersection.

The there's the weather.....

Thanks, I'll change it up - but weather does not look good at the moment, there are some serious thunderstorm pockets looking to smash our route multiple times between 5:30 and 9pm. I'm thinking we're going to need to cancel this ride... but I'll make a call around 4:30-5:00pm.

Ride is CANCELLED! I just recieved tornado alerts for exactly where we are riding. too risky to proceed at this point... everyone be safe and we'll see most of you tomorrow for HILLFEST!

In the event you want to use this route this week, I was through the closed section on Saturday and the workers were there preparing to pave either today or tomorrow.

I don't know status as of today.

Thanks Chris, I am going to post a ride tonight, I've had a busy week- probably going to pick a moderate ride with some medium-easy hills.
