Tuesday 6/21 Simsbury B Ride - Easy Does It, PRE-HILLFEST ride

With the 116th Anual HILLFEST scheduled for Wednesday, this ride will be low tempo and as flat as possible. I encourage everyone to come out to HILLFEST which departs approx 5:30pm from Canton HS parking lot tomorrow. It's a lot of climb, yes it's challenging, but it operates at many different levels and as the ride progresses it tends to form into smaller groups of similar desire and ability.

Today's ride is 28+ miles and 1900ft climb. One climb in the middle and a gradual climb up cherry brook on the return.

Queue Sheet:

  • Head out to West Mountain south, veer right on fork to Notch rd, right on Drybridge, Left on Lawton to RT-44 (Regroup)
  • !!! Getting on the Rail-Trail here, tricky intersection so stay together. NO PACE LINING on the trail !!!!
  • Hop off the trail at Dowd/Maple Ave, Left onto High St, Right on Main St, Left on Center and break right at fork onto New Rd. to the end (Regroup)
  • Tight right onto RT-4 for a moment, then quick left over the bridge onto River rd. to the end, Right on Burlington and turns into GW tpk
  • At top of climb make right onto Case Rd, Right onto Punchbrook back to RT-4, make right and head back to RT-179.
  • Taking RT-179 for 9 miles all the way to RT-309, make a right and return back to the start.

This is a "B" ride (generally averaging 15-18 mph) - Route varies weekly, exploring areas west, north, and east of Simsbury. Rides are generally hilly given our part of the state. Regroups always occur at key points, certainly at the tops of climbs. This Ride's is considered "Progressive" where each week the distance, speed and climb increase as riders improve and we chase the sunset for maximum ride time.
