Tuesday 5/17 Simsbury B Ride - Horse Head Ride

We'll continue chasing daylight to maximize ride distance each week, I added a mile and some extra climb. but overall a very similar ride profile to last week. We are going climb RT-20, Pederson & Legeyt and then enjoy the glorious descent down Mountain Road. Looking at 32mi route with 2400ft of climb. Weather looks to be great, a little on the cooler side at low 60's but that will make the climbs all more enjoyable.

Queue Sheet:

  • Head out to the right via Hedgehog, Saddle Ridge, Lenora to the end at Old Farms (Quick regroup)
  • Left on Old Farms take until the end, Left on Firetown to end (Regroup)
  • Left on Simsbury Road, Right on Day St to RT-20 (Regroup)
  • Left on RT-20 and climb away, right (left) onto Pederson --- watch the traffic coming down RT-20! ----
  • Left onto Dalene Rd which turns into Legeyt, take that to the end where it meets RT-179 (Regroup)
  • Right on RT-179 and take to the end at the church in East Hartland (Quick regroup at the Church pull off)
  • Head down RT-20, Make a Left onto Mountain Road and descent CAUTION: No Runout at the bottom - BRAKE early!!!
  • Regroup in the Post office Lot, then head out on RT-189, Right on Day St and return back the way we came via Firetown & Old Farms

This is a "B" ride (generally averaging 15-18 mph) - Route varies weekly, exploring areas west, north, and east of Simsbury. Rides generally alternate between hilly & flat. Regroups always occur at key points, certainly at the tops of climbs. This Ride's is considered "Progressive" where each week the speed and climb increase as riders improve and we chase the sunset for maximum ride time during daylight.
