Simsbury B Monday Night MTB Ride

All, the weather looks like rain starting Sunday night and running through Monday, there's a chance it may break by 5 or 6 pm. If so we may still have the ride as there is no better way to kickoff our night MTB rides than with some good ole' Stratton mud. I'll post as we get closer to the 6:30pm start time, I won't start a ride in the rain but if it lets up and looks clear then the ride is still a go!

Route: it's harder to post MTB rides like I do from the road rides, so I'll just call out a few locations. I'm always up for suggestions or if you remember fun rides from previous years I can try and recreate those. For this week we'll do Stratton Brook, Ethel Walker woods and keep it under 2 hours.

REMINDER: Go charge your lights right now! - Your light should be 500 lumens minimum and last at least 2 hours. I highly recommend having a second light as backup in case we are out longer or you need more light. Price has dropped a lot on a decent light so swing by your LBS to grab one. A rear blinky is also required. it's worth mentioning that it should be pointed down and to left so it's still visible on the road but not blinding the rider behind you.

Pace: Official a B ride, but on the easier side. we always regroup, we will not let the ride string out to far and everyone is in that end of season pace. We ask that each rider be responsible for the person in front of them as well as the person behind them, if they are dropping off, please pass a message ahead to regroup or slow ride.

Ride Details: We start at the commuter lot off Iron Horse Blvd in Simsbury and start the ride at 6:30pm sharp. Typically these rides run in the 1.5 to 2.5 hour range depending on weather conditions and route.

Post-Ride: This ride has a social element, many riders stay afterwards for refreshments and snacks. We usually hit Red Stone, McLadden's, or Plan-B in an unpredictable rotation, all are welcome.

Note: This ride use to be on Tuesdays and at the time was open to Cyclocross bikes. however that ride is no longer available. the ride is now regularly scheduled on Mondays and it is for Mountain bikes only. this ride is going to see out as much off-road time as possible however we will avoid the technical stuff. there was some general feedback last year that we spent too much time on the road and it was harder on MTB riders to keep up withe the easy-rollin' CX riders.

Going to Cancel for tonight - weather is 30% chance we encounter rain and with a general rain today everything will be slipper and that can lead to trail damage so I'll side on trail conservation for this one. We'll look to go at it again next week!

Good call. Trail erosion when wet can be severe.
