If you are headed up Rt 8 into MA for the next week or so, try to avoid this bridge work area. Lanes are narrowed to just traffic lane...absolutely no shoulder for about 100-150 yards. Traffic comes from the north around a pretty much blind curve...and from the south from over a knoll....and all at 60 mph min. There is no bike bail out unless you are adept at bunny hopping bridge abutments or jersey barriers. You can avoid it by taking old route 8 down along the reservoir shore...from the boat launch 1.5 miles south of the CT/MA line up to the old iron bridge and then back on RT 8 just beyond the work site (road is pretty rough, but ok).
