I won't be available this for this snowshoe, but here's a terrific path through the Simsbury Land Trust trails that leads to a lovely overlook. Brett and Kris are both familiar with this trail. Doug has done it from the trailhead on North Saddle Ridge Road, and I'd be very surprised if The Other Jim hasn't hiked it at some point, it being so close to his home. Here's the trail. Meet at 6:15 pm.
Nice route. Not a bad climb in the direction planned with a nice view at the end. I may show up if my lungs are cooperative today.

I would like to do this, hope we can get a group together
Would like to check this out. I have hiked this route. Very close to my house. I will check back later to see if this is a go.
Is anyone going from Torrington or New Hartford I can hitch a ride with ?
The trailhead is not plowed on 309. There is another hike at the top of Westledge Rd. (Off of 309) It is about a 3 mile down and back on the McLean pink blazed trail. I'll check back for any interest.
When I hiked the original planned area back in the fall I parked up near the Master's school and entered the trail system from there, though the signage now says this is forbidden. I hiked the loop clockwise, heading north in the valley west of the ridge (lots of rocks and boulders) and then south up a steep incline to the overlook. This would be quite challenging in the winter.
This is the hike up on off the top of Westledge. Very fun!
Trail has been already stomped out today. There is ample parking. I will check back later, but would like to hike it at 6:15p.
