RFTCC-Wingbiter Friday 2/12
What say you: hike or bike this week?
We decided last week that hikes are now in order. We thought of a hike or snowshoe along the section of the Tunxis trail from near Ratlum and ski sundown south to Farmington river turnpike. Fairly flat and it would be an out and back hike. A few miles. Not tough. We want to encourage significant others to join us.
It will be in the low 20s and possibly snow flurries.
That sounds lovely. I'll wear my tutu.
It been my experience that your definition of flat is somewhat suspect. Just make sure you put Greg in the front of the line :) Never get between him and gravity.
Can you post the location of the trailhead where we'll meet at 6 pm on Friday night? This looks like the approximate route.
Is it ok to bring more than one significant other, and can at least one of them be a canine?
We could meet at the parking lot at Ski Sundown. Park in the lot near Ratlum Road. The trail head is just south of the driveway. It's an ascent partly up and across the face of the hill across from Sundown, down and across Ratlum road, then into the woods. We'd go as far as the electric line crossing and then head back. Afterwards we could patronize the bar at Sundown and eat their food too. Catholics and vegetarians can eat celery sticks.
Four legged guests are welcome.
Edit:
Let's skip the hill hike across from Sundown. I drove by today. Can't even see the trail head and it's straight up the hillside. A friend who has hiked the area and most of the AT said to skip it too. We can hike out the back of Sundown's lot and access the trail from the south end of Ratlum. Snowshoes would be appropriate.
I'm out. Driving down to Virginia tonight Dress warm and remember to bring the Fireball emergency kit.
I'm also out. Unable to extract myself from the workplace in a timely manner. Stay warm.
Yeah!!!!! Another hike! See everyone there:)
