June Wed A rides

Looks like we have five Wednesdays in June to look forward to.

Summer Solstice Date

Looks like 6/22 is reserved for Hillfest but here's what I was thinking for the remaining days. If someone could covert this to map with GPS we can discuss:

-Depart Collinsville commuter lot.

-Head west on Rt 44 towards Pleasant Valley.

-East River Road to Riverton.

-Up Rt20 to Hogsback Rd (option B is straight up Rt 20).

-Pick up 20 around the top of the res and regroup in E. Hartland.

-East on 20 to Simsbury Rd, Firetown, etc.

-Cross 44 and jump on the bike path back to Collinsville.

-179 back to the parking lot.

Here is pats Route Pats Route Pat if this route need to be edited let me know.

I also made a loop a bit shorter but just as much climbing Option #2

Let the debate begin

Thanks Brett.

I am all for more climbing but Case still drops us on 179. Do we know if all the road work will be before that point?

I like the straighter shot back to the parking lot but I am curious to hear what people think about climbing 219/Case after the Res loop.

Discuss....

Hard to believe Option #2 (219 to Case) is just as much climbing as Option #1...it seems like there would be quite a bit more climbing. Option #1 looks a little easier so that gets my vote. However, don't place too much weight on my vote as I will likely miss the first two weeks anyway as I will be taking it easy next week getting ready to enjoy the profanity worthy climbs in the VT Grand Fondo on Saturday, June 4 (10,000 feet of climbing). And, I'm expecting that I will still be recovering the week after the Fondo.

Pat,

The road work on 179 will end north of the 179/219 intersection.

I prefer Option 1 over Option 2. With that said, perhaps an option could be the group splits; riders can return 219/Case or ride the Firetown route back.

I like the return section of option 2 via Case but I think adding the 219 climb may be a little too much. Let's stick with option 1 tonight and see how it goes.

I will be starting from Granby tonight and meet the group in Canton then most likely ride home from the intersection of old farms and Holcomb.

Thanks for the ride last night guys. I hope I didn't hold you guys back too much. It was great to get out and ride in a group instead of long solo runs on the TT bike.

The good news is that taking a short cut back to the commuter lot from East Hartland on route 179 reduces the ride length by exactly 7 miles to 35.5 miles. The bad news is that there is a quarter mile section of route 179 leading up to the intersection with route 219 that is completely under construction. There is no pavement whatsoever and it is barely passable as the surface is medium sized loose rock. Hopefully paving will take place soon.

That's why we headed back Simsbury Rd to avoid 179. It was a late arrival back at the parking, although I think most enjoyed the pace lining back through W. Simsbury.

Another option to consider is Pedersen Rd to Legeyt Rd off of Rt 20. This drops us on 179 just above the 219 intersection.

How far down was 179 torn up?

Glad you joined us. Hope to see you there again next week. Solo hours on a TT setup can wear on you :)

I liked the route including the pace line down 20. We got like 40 plus miles which is perfect for long day month. Also appreciated the post race pace bike path warm down. I vote to keep as is although my arm could be twisted to go up 219 to case.
