Hillfest 2018
I'm not seeing it on calendar. It's always on a longest Wednesday of the year so should be June 20th. Last year we departed from Canton High school parking lot. I think at 5:30. Don't want to lose track of that awesome ride - Can someone add to calendar?
Thank Jeff for beginning the talks for the Annual Hillfest Ride! I'm good with settling on Wednesday, June 20th. Last year, and a couple other times as well, there would be 2 dates, for anyone that couldn't make one day...or for those that wanted to do BOTH!!! Does anyone want to offer up another day, like the 21st...the actual summer solstice, or the 20th? For those of us with kids...graduations are happening throughout that week...so we will figure out something.
Hillfest...don't let the name discourage you...but be prepared for one of the best 'local' hilly rides.
Departure will be from Canton High School on Simonds Avenue in Canton. We will roll out at 5:30pm...and hope to head to The Crown and Hammer, Brewery Legitimus (if they'll welcome a special event) or Wilson's Pub, for a post ride recovery drink...stay tuned.
The route is staying the same...except for one minor modification. This is in the attempt to provide a continuous descent without a stop sign mid way down Indian Hill. You will take a right onto Spaulding at the top of West Hill Rd., loop around to take a left onto Indian Hill and then see you at the bottom on Rt. 44.
Jeff proposed this ride for Wednesday, June 20th with a 5:30PM start.
In 2017 (along with some additional years) there were two days for the ride. Last year, one departed from New Hartford. Please speak up if you'd like to create a second day.
With Canton's graduation on the 22nd, I'm game for leading the ride on Wednesday.

I did sit down and seriously try to determine how many years an "official" EBCC Hillfest has been going on and I do believe this to be #20. Is there anyone else that has old training logs and could verify that? I missed two (gasp) in 2014 & 2015 but did the two-night double twice, back when that was a regular thing, and a solo version during the day in 2004 when I was in Cuba on Hillfest night.
Wayne...I think you must be the King of the Hillfest. I know I have not ridden that loop as many times as you...I was taking care of young kids and all that stuff 20 years ago. I do know that it has gone on as long as we have had Benidorm Bikes...and that is 20 years. This could be the 21st as we are into our 21st year of business! Yowza!

As a reminder, we will roll out from Canton High School at 5:30PM on Wednesday, June 20th.
I spoke with a couple other club members that will roll out some time closer to 5PM, to embrace the ride at a 'mello' pace...if there could possibly be that pace. This group may also decide to head back to Canton after the 2nd time up Steele and head back to CHS. If you are interested in joining that group, then show up...or just show for the 5:30pm roll out.
Blinky lights are recommended.
On another note...as we each roll through New Hartford on June 20th, please take a moment to remember Gordon Keller...a young husband, father, son, brother, triathlete, coach and friend to many, whose life was unnecessarily taken 1 year ago while on his training ride.
As an individual, and as we cyclists participate in group rides, I am always thankful for our safe returns. I am saddened beyond words when others don't have that blessing. Let's continue to ride in efforts to always make cycling safer for the future.
I am sorry for anyone's loss and/or injury.
