CANCELED - Thursday (10/1) Off-road Night Ride - New Hartford
New for this year, we are moving the Thursday night ride from Collinsville to New Hartford.
Time: 6:30 pm
Location: New Hartford Center (parking lot behind the police station - same location as the dumpster ride)
What the hell is this? Off-road cyclocross ride featuring the dirt roads around New Hartford, Canton, Collinsville, Burlington, etc. For those of you with inadequate bicycle inventories, a mountain bike will do. Rides will be mostly dirt roads and quiet back roads and can be fairly hilly. No single-track or mountain bikey stuff.
What to bring: Headlights, tail lights, cycling clothing appropriate for colder weather, change of clothes for the possibility of a post-ride beverage. There is a long-standing club tradition that grateful riders cheerfully buy beers for the ride leaders.
Route: Routes can vary from week to week, but we'll post the old Waynebiter route on the calendar as a default loop, since a lot of folks are familiar with it and it's generally pretty quiet.
Winter pace will be strictly enforced
I will make a go no go decision by 5pm Thursday
Okay, who helped Brett write this? There are no grammatical errors! And he used punctuation!
I think I asked this last year and never got an answer.
What, pray tell, is winter pace?

Exactly. If you get an answer before Spring than its not Winter pace.
Winter Pace, aka BDAWP (Benn Dunn Approved Winter Pace, coined by Wayne) means that if you attempt to push the off season group ride pace beyond what Benn preferred that day he would threaten to beat the crap of out you. Although he never laid a finger on anyone back then Benn was in his pre-ultra marathon form and did present an imposing figure. He was also known as the "club enforcer" at the time.
In essence, if you violate BDAWP, and every newbie invariably does (myself on many occasions as Wayne will attest) you earn the right to have insults heaped upon by seasoned riders. You will also be instantly be in the running the dubious title of club winter world champion. See the article below for more details:

I think I remember "Puncture Man" from a night ride about five + years ago where we had 5 tire changes to fix 3 flats (which is why you should carry tubes with long stems).
my average speed last week was 12.6 mph I did walk a short section. keep in mind we are riding cross bikes and about 30% to 50% dirt roads
Ride tonight canceled due to rain coming in. See everyone next week
