Alternate "C" ride for Wed 7/27
Carey and folks are heading to Pleasant Valley for a "C" ride up Sandy Brook. Looks like good fun, but maybe a step too far for some potential "C" riders. I will lead an alternate "C" ride of more modest ambition than Sandy Brook. https://ridewithgps.com/routes/15377540. This is 20 miles and 800' of climbing using our more traditional routes. Start from West Mtn Park on West Mtn Road in West Simsbury @ 6:00 pm. Please be a bit early so we can leave @ 6:00. Speed will be 12 mph avg and no one will be left behind. This ride is for newer riders and those looking for a more relaxed "C" ride.
If work doesn't get in the way, I'll be joining you Don!
The ride is on for this evening and through Labor Day as weather permits.
Just to clarify, the "other" Wed C ride is conducted at C ride pace, or at least it will be when I'm leading the ride. And by C pace I don't mean your speedometer says you averaged 11-15 mph at the end of the ride because most B rides meet that definition too. What I mean by C ride is the typical speeds on flats will be 11-15 mph. Sure, it will tend towards 15 more than 11, and it will drift over that on occasion, but there will not be prolonged periods over 15 mph.
There are some folks who show up for it and then ride at a B pace, but those folks are just sharing the same road. Anyone riding miles ahead of me and not waiting to regroup is entirely on their own and not part of the sanctioned club ride. I don't count their heads or worry about where they are.
And Sandy Brook is hardly a difficult ride or a long one. 22 miles, 920 feet of climb with a maximum grade of 3-4%. I don't understand the need for an alternative.
Don, I rode with Angie last night and she talked me into doing the 30 mile tour of Litchfield Hills with her. I hope you are ok if I don't join you at your post and on your ride to the Boulangerie in Great Barrington. Are some others going to join you? I hope so. Your ride sounded so nice and thank you for inviting me on it. Gina
