2nd Watopia Wednesday Ride for Computer Science Majors

This will be the 2nd ride. The first ride ended up with 3 of us riding together. Walt was waiting with us at the start line then we lost him. Not exactly sure why.

Time is 6:30 pm - see below for full details - Please read We found that it is best to use voice chat. It helps at the start to get organized and during to keep in touch. We used TeamSpeak which is referenced with a link below. If that does not work out for some we can look at something different. It works on a PC/MAC/IOS/Android I also will start the ride in the Zwift group chat. Pay attention as I will update if we are waiting and will also give the Gooooo command when we start. *One other thing we noticed was it was tough grouping at the start. Matching speed is tough. What i will do is keep an even pace and wait until everyone is together. It's easy to overshoot and then slow down too much.

  • If you don't know what this is you may need a little more time to set up. In short Zwift has 2 virtual road coarses you can ride with a trainer. For more info check out: http://zwift.com/ - Give a holler if you have questions. Details

  • Wednesday 1/20 at 6:30 pm (***Wait for the Goooo in chat or on TeamSpeak)

  • Coarse Watopia * Choose the Figure Eight
  • Add (EBCC) to your name so your easily recognized - Log out and back in after doing so - I hear if you do this while others are already logged in they may not see it - do it the night before if possible
  • Communications: Setup TeamSpeak and use a pair of headphones with a mic if possible. Channel - scroll dow to United states Team 9 (not sure how these work but it looks free now)
  • Meeting place - Start/Finish make sense to me (no dumpster yet- I'm sure it's a priority)
  • Pace - Friendly - lets stay together - it's a much better experience for everyone that way
  • Kit - while in game press 'P' and then enter the promo code: GOBATTENKILL2015 this will help distinguish each other from everyone else

I'm in. Just got my Mic in today so I can be part of the conversatuon

I should be able to make it this week. -Brent

I should be there. Slight chance I get stuck at office so don't wait. I'll have teamspeak if I ride.

I setup a teamspeak server. use the following information so we have a consistent way to connect, the problem with public servers is they go up and down all the time.

  • Server address: ebcc.ddns.us
  • Password: hammer

you would pick your own nickname and label. you can even bookmark it.

Mike or Brett if you could give it a try before we ride to ensure I can work out any issues.****

Thanks Brent. Try it again.. for some reason it showed max # clients reached (32)... Yes, using the default port # 9987. if it doesn't work, try the direct IP 71.235.217.206 to see if it's DNS issue. I also just expanded some firewall ports and change the routing table to include both TCP & UDP to see if that helps.

Greg - you get that?

In reply to Kring

Me too - failed to connect to server *It's pingable :)

You should change the name of this ride on the EBCC calendar to: "Watopia Wednesday Ride for Computer Science Majors."

It's a piece of cake. You just have to attach your cadence and optional power meter and/or smart trainer and then getting a USB adapter to pick up the ant+ or bluetooth signal fromt he said device installing compatible software for your device (some devices may not accept bluetooth and due the infancy of bluetooth low energy (BLE - ant+ FE-C integration) pair it with you application and each of your devices install you voice communication software which just requires the correct fqdn and port # then the room along with integration with your headset but setup for voice activation by adjusting the levels and be aware of distortion that may occur you can try the filters or try PTT (push-to-talk) and be sure to have a go connection to your internet connection and hook up your mobile device that has it's own app and talks to your pc and enables you to ineract with the game. ***Simple - Just DON'T fall off your bike while doing this

Where's Gerard through all this? He loves this shit.

Thanks Brent. Try it again but with password "hammer" For some reason it showed max # clients reached (was 32)... from what I gather, since the password was so weak someone hacked in and dropped the max clients to zero which effectively permanently destroys the server... so I rebuilt it. I am using the default port # 9987. If it doesn't work, try the direct IP 71.235.217.206 to see if it's DNS issue. I also just expanded some firewall ports and change the routing table to include both TCP & UDP to see if that helps.

Greg - you get all of that?

In reply to CrossBikeRedPants

Greg, type in IP address 71.235.217.206hut,hut,hike and see if that works. If not try IP 71.235.217.206youjustsank_mybattleship

don't worry Greg I don't have a clue at to what their talking about. keep up the hard work guys hope were ready for ride time.

I'm still snowshoeing, xc skiing, sledding, hot tubbing, etc., in Vermont. I just read this thread. Great stuff! My trainer is too dumb for Zwift. Need a new one so I need to find a list for it....birthday, father's day, Christmas, etc. I've used teamspeak years ago. Works well. Amateur radio is also an option. No servers needed and no complicated ip addresses, ports, etc!

"Greg - you get all of that?"

Oh, yeah. I'm all over it.

i need the help of one of the computer science majors. i opened team speak 3 like last week.

then under connections tab i clicked on connect.

for the service address i copied and pasted:

Server address: ebcc.ddns.us Password: hammer

then clicked connect

team speak then did the following:

trying to resolve hostname ebcc.ddns.us trying to connect to server on ebcc.ddns.us and Failed to connect to server

some help please.

thanks brett

In reply to Brett

I don't think it's working yet. Failed for me too with ebcc.ddns.us and the ip address

In reply to MikeGluz

Well, Jeez, guys, that was simple. You see, the password "hammer" was so weak that I was able to hack in and reduce the maximum number of clients allowed to 0, effectively permanently destroying the server. Sorry about that. By the way, does anybody want to ride with me on Friday night? You will not need a server. You will not need a firewall. You will not need a computer, a bluetooth connection, or a power meter. You will need a hat. And lights. By the way, let us know how this worked for you tonight. It looked pretty cool last week.

In reply to MikeGluz

sorry guys, I can't get it to work just yet, Greg F'd it up AGAIN.. Just use one of the public ones while I chase down what's going on this week. stuck at work so can't make the ride either... phooey.
