TOKENEKE Gran Fondo - Need your opinion
The organizers of the Tokeneke Classic Road Race are contemplating the idea of a Gran Fondo during the race day next August 13th. The Fondo would be one lap (22miles & 2200' of climbing) on the race course with 2 timed segments (Beach Rock Road climb and the Final Climb up North Hollow Rd.) KOM's on each climb: Men, Women and age categories. Also would get a Fondo t-shirt & medals. Would need 100 participants to make it viable. Wondering if there would be interest for any non-racers out there who would want this type of experience closer to home. Currently trying to see if there is any interest.
Feel free to reply or email me at twern@comcast.net
Any feedback is much appreciated. .
Thanks! Tim
Tim, I have not ever ridden a Fondo but that seems like a short distance compared to some of the others I have heard about.
Pat, I hear you. Our title sponsor wanted to test the waters and push to get their employees involved with healthy lifestyle activities. So it probably isn't challenging enough for many EBCC members who have completed longer, tougher Fondos.
I get the sense that participation would likely come from less experienced cyclists. Right I would say this is unlikely to move forward. I have received some other feedback offline and I greatly appreciate the candor. Tim
If the sponsors want to plan a longer Fondo, we at EBCC who ride those roads regularly would be happy to put together a 75 mile-or-so hillfest.
That's exactly what the Toke is for most of the fields....a 75 mile hill fest.
